Introduction to BRICS Research Infrastructure and Major Scientific Projects Working Group
The Research Infrastructure and Major Scientific Projects Working Group has held six meetings so far in Russia (2017, 2022, and 2024), Brazil (2018), China (2019), and South Africa (2023). Russia and Brazil coordinate the activities of this working group.
BRICS GRAIN Platform
This working group has established the “BRICS GRAIN” platform, a digital network of BRICS research infrastructures, providing information on 30 infrastructures in the fields of energy, nanotechnology, biology, fundamental physics, and astronomy.
Objectives and Priorities of the Working Group
Advanced Neutron Sources
Access to neutron sources aims to advance research in materials and energy sciences.
Synchrotrons
Synchrotrons enable cutting-edge research in energy and fundamental sciences.
Underground Laboratories
These laboratories are highly valuable for fundamental physics research and particle detection.
Research Infrastructure Library
This library aims to integrate information and facilitate researchers’ access.
Opportunities for Iran in this Working Group
Iran’s participation in this working group is highly significant: it allows familiarization with BRICS countries’ equipment and infrastructures and provides the opportunity to define new research priorities and utilize these facilities.
For example, collaboration in carbon recycling and carbon emission reduction could help address Iran’s environmental challenges.
