BRICS Science, Technology, and Innovation Steering Committee: Overview and Activities
The BRICS Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Steering Committee was established in 2020 with the participation of all initial member countries. The committee is responsible for overseeing the implementation of scientific and technological cooperation programs, coordinating calls for joint research projects, and providing analytical, technical, and organizational support.
Main Responsibilities of the Steering Committee
Monitoring and Coordination of Programs
The committee supervises joint scientific and technological projects within BRICS and coordinates calls under the BRICS STI Framework Program.
Event and Meeting Planning
Planning the calendar of events for specialized working groups and organizing monthly and annual meetings also fall under the committee’s responsibilities.
Reviewing Cooperation Opportunities
Representatives of member countries regularly meet to review and discuss new opportunities for collaboration in various scientific and technological fields.

2024 Meeting in Moscow
In 2024, the 14th meeting of senior officials and focal points of BRICS was held in Moscow, yielding key outcomes such as reviewing the results of specialized working groups, emphasizing the strengthening of research cooperation, and agreeing on the formation of a new Social and Human Sciences working group.
Approval of Declarations and Event Calendar
During this meeting, the draft calendar of events for the upcoming year and the BRICS Science, Technology, and Innovation declaration were approved and signed by the heads of delegations.
Development of Information Access Infrastructure
To address challenges in accessing records of meetings and agreements, the Russian side announced the creation of a comprehensive website to host all related information.
