BRICS Member Participation in Science and Technology Calls

The level of participation by member countries reflects not only scientific and technological capacity but also the priorities and funding levels of supporting institutions. The highest participation is observed in China, India, and Russia, while Brazil has shown an upward trend, gradually closing the gap with the three leading countries.

Regarding thematic distribution, Materials Science holds the largest share of projects, followed by Biotechnology. The significant share of these two fields indicates their high priority among BRICS member governments.

Achievements of the BRICS Science and Technology Framework

  • 3% of respondents believe that without BRICS support, project implementation would not have been possible, and the BRICS framework enabled the expansion of scientific interactions in over half of the consortia.
  • The framework program successfully established an independent BRICS scientific identity within the first five years.
  • Over 1,600 proposals involving more than 5,000 institutions and participants from the five member countries were submitted in previous calls. Across six cycles, 157 joint projects in the form of tri-, quad-, and pentapartite consortia received funding.
