Establishing a BRICS Scholarship Program to Train Talents and Deepen Cooperation

At the 17th BRICS Summit, held in July this year in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, China proposed the establishment of a China–BRICS Research Center along with the launch of a specialized scholarship program aimed at nurturing talented individuals in fields such as industry and communications.

The Outstanding New Industries Scholarship, known as the “Golden Duck Scholarship,” has been launched by the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution Innovation Center (BRICS PartNIR Innovation Center), located in Xiamen, Fujian Province, with registration now open to applicants. Established in 2020, the center is recognized as one of the most active hubs for international cooperation, having signed 107 joint cooperation projects worth over 50.6 billion yuan (approximately USD 7 billion).

The center has also organized numerous events, including exhibitions, innovation competitions, and 90 talent development programs (both in-person and online), engaging more than 3 million participants from 100 countries worldwide over the past year. These efforts have been widely acknowledged and commended by BRICS member states.

The Xiamen Service Zone represents China’s first comprehensive public service platform dedicated exclusively to economic and trade cooperation among BRICS countries. Xiamen is also emerging as a key logistics hub for BRICS, with air and maritime routes already launched to destinations such as Brazil and South Africa.
