First Session within the BRICS Nuclear Energy Platform Held in China

On the sidelines of the 16th China International Nuclear Energy Industry Exhibition in Beijing in May 2025, the first session within the framework of the BRICS Nuclear Energy Platform was held, attended by government representatives and specialized organizations from member and partner countries, including China, Russia, Brazil, South Africa, Iran, and others.

This platform, established in October 2024, aims to share experiences and support the development of nuclear technologies among BRICS countries. It assists companies in using nuclear energy as a clean and sustainable source and helps address operational challenges of nuclear projects.

The session focused on key factors affecting nuclear energy development, efficient resource distribution methods, current industry trends, and the outlook for collaboration among member countries for balanced global development and energy security. It also provided emerging nuclear countries with opportunities to adopt best practices in nuclear technology to tackle environmental and social challenges.

The Deputy Director of Uranium Resources at China’s State Nuclear Uranium Resource Development Company emphasized that young professionals in the nuclear industry require guidance from experienced experts in technologically advanced countries. The session offered BRICS nuclear organizations a platform for collaboration on joint projects.

Currently, BRICS member countries possess approximately 390 GW of operational nuclear energy capacity and 66 MW of nuclear energy capacity under construction.
