According to Mehr News Agency, the second day of the BRICS Geospatial Information Working Group meeting was held in Tehran, hosted by the Islamic Republic of Iran at the Center for Progress and Development of the Presidency.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Sajjad Ahadzadeh, Head of the Center for Progress and Development of the Presidency, stated that drawing on more than four decades of experience in international technology and innovation cooperation, the center has been designated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Iran’s official focal point for collaboration with the BRICS bloc.

Highlighting the growing importance of geospatial information technologies in improving efficiency, security, and quality of life—particularly in areas such as smart navigation, traffic management, public service enhancement, and emergency response—Ahadzadeh announced that following extensive consultations, Iran has been selected to host the fourth BRICS Working Group meeting on geospatial technologies and their applications in 2025.

He added that significant efforts have been made to foster coordination among national organizations and universities active in this field, resulting in the National Cartographic Center of Iran being introduced as the specialized focal point to BRICS counterparts.

According to Ahadzadeh, the meeting officially began the previous day with online participation from nine out of the ten BRICS member countries, with the first day dedicated to presenting achievements and capabilities in geospatial technologies.

He noted that on the second day, representatives of member states will present proposals for defining joint cooperation projects, and the meeting will conclude with the finalization of a joint reference cooperation document.

Ahadzadeh also emphasized the necessity of establishing a secure framework for geospatial data exchange among BRICS member countries, expressing hope that such cooperation will form a successful model for future international projects.
