BRICS Energy Research Collaboration Platform and Sustainable Energy Development

History and Launch

The BRICS Energy Research Collaboration Platform is one of the initiatives proposed by Russia in 2015 and officially launched in 2018. In 2019, the terms and rules of this initiative were formally approved, and in 2020, its first reports were published.

Scope and Member Organizations

Approximately 100 organizations are participating in this initiative, with 15 defined work areas. So far, a total of 10 reports have been produced within this framework.

Main Objectives

  • Achieving sustainable energy development through collaboration in technology research, policy-making, and energy innovation
  • Ensuring global access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy
  • Strengthening the energy security of BRICS member countries
  • Enhancing the role of BRICS countries in the global energy agenda
