Advancing Agricultural Science and Technology Cooperation within BRICS
To enhance food security and scientific collaboration among BRICS countries, India has focused on developing and applying modern agricultural technologies while facilitating knowledge exchange among member states. Through the Ministry of Agriculture and related research institutions, particularly the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), India has led in sharing innovations and best practices in climate-resilient farming, crop diversification, soil health management, and precision agriculture.
In this context, the BRICS Agricultural Research Platform (BRICS-ARP), launched during India’s BRICS chairmanship in 2021, enables member countries to utilize research capacities and exchange scientific expertise. This virtual network supports joint projects, pilot programs, and training initiatives, showcasing international collaboration for developing climate-resilient agricultural products.
Simultaneously, India has upgraded its processing, packaging, supply chain, and logistics infrastructure to enhance exports and product competitiveness. International safety and quality standards are applied, while farmers and exporters benefit from training programs, brand development initiatives, value addition strategies, and alignment with global sanitary regulations.
Active participation in global exhibitions and events, coupled with investment opportunities and bilateral cooperation in areas such as food processing technologies, automation, and development of food parks, has further expanded India’s presence in international agricultural markets.
