Strengthening Strategic Cooperation Between Brazilian Science and Technology Parks and BRICS Members

With the aim of enhancing technological cooperation among BRICS member states, Brazil’s Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), through its Science and Technology Park known as Tecnopuc, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the BRICS China Scientific and Industrial Innovation Park (China-SIIP).

Located in Xiamen, China, the park is recognized as a BRICS innovation hub for the new industrial revolution and provides a global infrastructure for the implementation of joint scientific and industrial projects among BRICS countries. China-SIIP also plays a key role in facilitating technological cooperation by focusing on advanced manufacturing, the digital economy, green technologies, and smart cities.

The new agreement enables broad cooperation in areas such as joint research, startup acceleration, technology exchange, and access to international markets. It also provides a platform for innovators and technology-based companies to connect with investors, government institutions, legal services, and global networking opportunities through international forums and events.

In addition to PUCRS, several other Brazilian universities and science and technology parks have joined the initiative, including the Federal University of Pernambuco, Tocantins State University, University of Vale do Sinos, Juiz de Fora Science Park, São José dos Campos Innovation Park, as well as a number of national research institutions.

Tecnopuc will also participate in major international events such as the World Conference of the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation and the Triple Helix Innovation Summit in Beijing. During these events, Brazilian managers and researchers will present their experiences on the role of innovation parks in technological development, industry growth, and innovation ecosystems.

This cooperation not only represents an important step toward the internationalization of Brazil’s innovation infrastructure but also reflects the country’s growing interest in joining the global BRICS innovation network and shaping a new generation of technological collaboration among universities, governments, and the private sector.
