The BRICS group is composed of eleven countries, namely China, Russia, India, Brazil, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Indonesia, Ethiopia, and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Collectively, BRICS countries represent nearly half of the world’s population and approximately 40 percent of global gross domestic product. As one of the most significant multilateral cooperation frameworks, BRICS plays an important role in dialogue, consultation, and engagement on major global issues.
Although BRICS does not have a centralized and formal organizational structure in the conventional sense, a structured and coordinated mechanism entitled the “BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation Steering Committee” has been established since 2020 with the participation of all member countries. This committee is responsible for policy coordination, oversight of program implementation, and the harmonization of calls for joint research and technology projects among BRICS members.
In the Islamic Republic of Iran, the responsibility for activities and coordination related to the BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation Steering Committee is entrusted to the Center for Progress and Development. This Center serves as the official BRICS Focal Point of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of science, technology, and innovation. It works in close coordination with key national stakeholders within Iran’s science and technology ecosystem, including the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, the Innovation and Prosperity Fund, the National Science Foundation of Iran, and other relevant institutions and organizations, with the aim of promoting and deepening scientific and technological cooperation between Iran and other BRICS member countries.
The “BRICS Iran” website has been established to serve as an official, reliable, and authoritative reference platform for disseminating information on news, events, programs, and calls related to BRICS science, technology, and innovation activities. The website seeks to facilitate access to accurate and up-to-date information for researchers, innovators, knowledge-based companies, and other interested stakeholders, thereby supporting participation in cooperation opportunities within the BRICS framework.
This website operates under the supervision of the Center for International Science and Technology Cooperation and Development of the Vice Presidency and, as the official BRICS Focal Point of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of science, technology, and innovation, is responsible for coordination, information dissemination, and the development of related national and international interactions.
