NDB Issues Panda Bonds

The New Development Bank (NDB) has successfully issued three-year Panda Bonds worth 3 billion yuan (430 million USD) in China’s interbank bond market.

Panda Bonds are a specific type of bond issued in the Chinese bond market by foreign entities, including companies, governments, or multilateral development banks. The newly issued bonds were priced at an interest rate of 1.88% and have attracted the attention of a wide range of domestic and international investors, including official institutions and central banks.

With this issuance, the total volume of Panda Bonds issued by NDB has reached 78.5 billion yuan (11 billion USD), of which 47.5 billion yuan (6.7 billion USD) remains outstanding. This transaction represents a key part of the bank’s strategy to finance infrastructure projects and sustainable development in member countries while mitigating risks from currency fluctuations.

This move also contributes to the development and strengthening of China’s domestic capital markets, enabling the mobilization of sustainable long-term funding for projects. In this issuance, China Construction Bank (CCB) acted as the lead underwriter, with Agricultural Bank of China, Export-Import Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, and China International Capital Corporation participating as joint underwriters.

Notably, this issuance can further consolidate NDB’s position as a strategic and reliable partner in global capital markets.
