The second day of the BRICS Working Group Meeting on Research Infrastructures and Mega-Science Projects convened on Tuesday in Tehran, bringing together delegates from member countries to review joint program proposals and outline strategic priorities for future collaboration.
The closing day, hosted by the Center for Progress and Development of Iran (CPDI) and the Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, focused on practical mechanisms for enhancing coordination among BRICS research infrastructure organizations.
Delegates examined several proposed initiatives, including collaborative programs in frontier scientific fields, coordinated development of shared facilities, and structured partnerships for large-scale research projects.
Discussions also covered strategies to expand researcher exchanges, improve access to national research infrastructures, and establish long-term frameworks for developing advanced scientific tools and technologies.
A significant portion of the meeting focused on reviewing and refining the draft minutes of the seventh BRICS Working Group Meeting. Delegates assessed the sections related to the group’s scope, cooperation mechanisms, and reporting structure to ensure clearer pathways for effective implementation of joint initiatives.
In his closing remarks, Alireza Hashemi, Director of International Affairs at CPDI, expressed hope that the consultations held in Tehran would pave the way for enhanced cooperation among BRICS member states in research infrastructures and mega-science initiatives. He added that Iran, as the host country, will consolidate members’ feedback and submit the final minutes to the BRICS STI Steering Committee for approval.
The meeting concluded with delegates reaffirming the importance of sustained coordination and structured planning to strengthen BRICS collaboration in research infrastructures and mega-science projects in the coming years.
